DIY Spring Wreath

An easy way to decorate and update your home is by hanging seasonal wreaths on your door! You can switch them out as the seasons change, and your wreaths can easily be stored in in a box, ready to be displayed when needed. What I love about this wreath is that it can start as an Easter wreath, and then can be “transformed” into a Spring wreath by removing the egg basket. However, I love the way the eggs look, so I think I will leave them there throughout the season Image may be NSFW.

Wreath supplies

Natural thick floral wire
Thin floral wire
Bird/Rabbit floral decoration
Wreath
Decorative Easter eggs
Hot glue gun
Wire cutters

This wreath will take you from Easter into spring decorations as the eggs are removable, so if eggs remind you too much of Easter…. you can detach them once the holiday is done and then leave the wreath up until the next holiday of your choice!

You can either use natural floral wire or a ribbon as a hanger for your wreath. I had wire leftover from another craft and love the way it just matches the natural wreath! Take the wreath and decide where you want to try things and then create your wire or ribbon hanger.

Next, I placed my flowers and chose to keep the whole stem together. I cut the wire below where multiple stems had been floral tapped into one. You could easily cut off the individual stems and place them strategically around the wreath, but I liked the look of just one stem.

Then used the thin floral wire to attach the flowers to the wreath. I also gently bent and molded the shape of the stem to arch around with the shape of the wreath. I had a hard time getting the wire tightly wrapped, but just tried to attach the stems as securely as possible.

The bird was placed to hide the end of the stem that was wrapped with green wire to the brown wreath. I thought it would hide the wire nicely. The bird itself came with a long piece of floral wire attached, but you could cut that off and instead hot glue the bird to the wreath if you didn’t want more green wire visible.

You now have your spring wreath!

To add a little Easter festivity, you can then create a bird nest with eggs! Three is pleasing to the eye, so my nest has three eggs. I began hot gluing them to one another after I played around with the placement.

Then use some more of the thick floral wire to create a nest. I cut a length, created a circle that was slightly smaller than the width of the three eggs (so that you can glue the eggs onto the nest later), wrapped the end and began passing the wire through the center of the circle to build up the sides of the nest. I wanted a messy look and found that wrapping it through the center made it a bit more stable and full.

Hot glue the eggs onto the nest you’ve created and then use the thin floral wire to attach the nest and eggs to the wreath. You’ll then be able to remove the nest for a wreath that could carry you all the way until Fourth of July!!!
